When you think about adding a bodily fluid to a magickal concoction, which one would it be? When I’ve posted this question in social media forums over the years, blood is the number one answer by miles, then comes sexual fluids, urine and spit. Strangely, in my opinion, tears never seem to make the list. However, used artfully, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Some ways of collecting tears
A witch that practices tear magick should be in the habit of carrying a small vial on her person. When she experiences an emotion that brings tears to her eyes, she can collect them in the phial, labelling it with the applicable feeling.
Another way to collect your own tears is by dabbing them with a tissue and putting the tissue in a bottle for later use. The drawback to this method is that you can’t very well give someone a brew or some food with a tissue in it and expect them not to notice.
When it comes to collecting the tears of another, the above methods are still workable with some deviant twists. What those twists are, I’ll leave to your imagination, should you choose to go that route.
Examples of how you can use tears in magick
Tears can be used in both general and specific ways. Generally, because they’re salty, you can use them in any recipe that requires salt, these tend to be principally healing and protection mixtures. When you get to specifics, however, there are endless possibilities. Here are a few to give you a springboard.
Mix the tears of a strong emotion you’ve suffered into the food or drink of another to make them feel as you did. To enhance the effect, use other ingredients that would multiply or add to the feeling. Depending on the affect you want, you could make another feel your anger, pain, grief, love, hate, hope, etc.
Similarly, you can mix your tears into your own food or drink in order to feel an emotion immediately. Two great uses for this would be when you want to uplift your spirit or when you have need to feel a certain way to enhance a magickal working. For example, you may want to consume tears of rage if you’re about to do some baneful magick.
Use your tears of grief in spells and rituals to summon and communicate with your ancestors. The dead are extra sensitive to the pain and suffering of their living relatives.
When binding a person, drip some tears of rage, anger and hate onto a poppet you’ve created in their image. This will drive peace and joy from them and cause them to suffer some of your darkest emotions until they are unbound or finally pass away.
Manipulate another by using their own tears to put them in various moods that will bend them to your will. For example, you might decide that you want a raise. Use your boss’ tears of joy to put him in an ecstatic mood, one in which he has no qualms about expending extra money.
I could go on and on, but these should be enough to get you started.
If you’d care to share, there’s a couple of things I’d love to hear about from you. The first is a successful tear magick story and the other is a successful strategy you’ve used to collect the tears of another.
